Early on Friday morning a Greenville woman was killed in a weather related accident.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened early in the morning on the Interstate 40 in Pender Country near the Duplin County line, at mile marker 388. It appears that 19 year old Mindy Burnett was heading westbound on the Interstate at the same time as a Pepsi tractor trailer. The Pepsi semi slowed down as it approached a patch of ice, but Burnett was unable to slow and her vehicle began to spin and hit the tractor trailer.
Burnett was pronounced dead at the scene and a one year old infant in her car was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington to be treated for injuries. The Pepsi driver was uninjured.
The investigation is still ongoing.
