Winter Weather Causes Problems

Winter weather is continuing to cause problems for drivers around the region.

On Tuesday, February 23, Highway Patrol troopers said that there have been at least 1,700 accidents across North Carolina; 24 in Pitt, 35, in Lenoir and 20 in Craven counties and they warned people to stay off the roads.

In Greenville, a number of accidents were reported as snow continued to accumulate across the city.

On Memorial Drive, just north of Country Club Road a driver traveling north, lost control of their Toyota and crossed into the southbound lanes. They then slammed into a Greenville EMS truck headed back to its station. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident. A citation was issued to the driver of the Toyota.

Weather was to blame for many more accidents with cars sliding off the road and, in some cases, hitting head on with another.

In Onslow County accident 32 year old Amber Barraclough was travelling on Harris Creek Road when she lost control of her car. She slid across the road, crossed the center line, and hit a tree. She was transported to Onslow Memorial where she died and a front seat passenger was treated for non life threatening injuries.

Finally two Charlotte police officers managed to escape injury after a tractor trailer clipped another car, causing it to crash into the police cruiser.
