Elderly Man Killed in Accident with Truck

A pedestrian was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning in Oconee County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 6 a.m. in front of the Bountyland Quick Stop convenience store on US 76, or Clemson Boulevard, at Davis Creek Road.

Franklin G. Hester, aged 76, of Seneca, had left his house to go to an urgent care facility. While on the way there, his car broke down, and Hester parked the car in the convenience store parking lot, called his family for help and then walked across the highway to the Paws Diner for coffee and to get out of the cold.

As he crossed from the diner back to his car he was hit by a white 2014 Freightliner box truck which was heading west. He died at the scene from blunt force trauma.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the truck was 24 year old Kelvin Powell of Greenville. No charges have been filed and it appears the death has been ruled an accident.
