On Monday night, February 15, a senior from Southside High School died in a head on collision in Greenville County.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Verdae Boulevard. The student, 17 year old Lauryn Tyona Agnew of Easley was driving westbound when her vehicle hit a frozen patch of ice which was on the road. She then skidded and crossed the center line, running head on into a eastbound 2005 Chevrolet tow truck.
She was not ejected as she was wearing a seat belt but had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she later died.
The driver of the truck was taken to St. Francis East Hospital with injuries although the extent of them is unknown.
There have now been 21 traffic fatalities in the Upstate and Western North Carolina so far this year
